NEW YORK— A couple from Manchester in the United Kingdom were inspired by the Chinese New Year Splendor on Tuesday night.

Paul is a painter, a writer, and a builder. He said he appreciated the "fabulous colors" that were in the show.

"That was one of the first things that I noticed, was the brilliant, vibrant colors, you know.

"Sometimes they had contrasting colors, and at other times complimentary colors. They were beautifully put together."

He said the scenery from an artist's perspective looked like a painting.

"The costumes were beautiful, the backdrops were beautiful, the colors were absolutely fantastic," he said.

"Absolutely wonderful. I loved it," he said.

Paul said he likes Chinese art. "Throughout the show many times I thought 'maybe I could paint something like that,'" he said.

This is the first time Paul has been to a Chinese show.

"We've been to New York several times before but it's the first time we've seen anything like that. It was amazing.

"It was absolutely beautiful," he said.

His favorite part of the show was the drums. "The drum sequences were fabulous, you know," he said.

"It was just so impressive, so different, so loud. And the coordination was terrific, you know, the way they timed everything, it was perfect, so I loved it," he said.

His wife Carol, a director of transport, said all the colors were "absolutely fantastic."

"I can't get over it, I really can't! All the little oysters and all the green, all the sea colors: fabulous, absolutely fabulous," she said.

Paul and Carol make sure they go to a show each time they come to New York.

Carol said the costumes, dances, the backdrop, the music, "put it all together," and made the show "absolutely, first class."

She said her only other contact with Chinese culture was Chinese food.

"Wherever we go, whichever city we're in, we always try to do a Chinese meal, now if that's Chinese culture, you can take it from there," she said.
