I am pleased to extend my warmest greetings to everyone attending the 2008 Chinese New Year Spectacular hosted by New Tang Dynasty television.

Tonight's event welcomes the new year with a celebration of the rich customs that are an integral part of Chinese culture. As you mark the Year of the Rat. I know that you will take time to recognize the important role of Chinese Canadians in the development of our nation's cultural and economic landscape, and to reflect upon the good fortune we all have to be living in one of the most privileged nations on earth.

I would like to thank the organizers of this event for their commitment to sharing the beauty of Chinese traditions with their fellow Canadians. I have no doubt that audiences will delight in the exceptional showcase of colourful, handmade costumes, brilliant choreography and outstanding musical compositions.
